The Cornucopia is the seasonally operated farm market at Klackle orchards. It is open from August through Thanksgiving and usually closes in December sometime. Check out the Cornucopia section of this website to learn more details about the market's ever expanding produce, bakery and gift selections. The market started back in the early 1980's when Steve Klackle hauled out an old farm wagon with a top on it and started selling fruit on the honor system (put your money in the can). He'd fill the wagon with a produce selection in the morning, head out to the fields to work, and then return to check on it and re-supply the wagon at lunchtime and in the late afternoon. This ritual would continue from the sweet corn crop through the peaches and finally the last variety of apples picked for the year. After a few years of this, with differing configurations of wagons and temporary covers, the original open sided 50 ft. x 50 ft. market was finally constructed in 1986. Sides were added the next year and in 1988 the first donut machine and bakery products came to be. The outside activities (being Klackleville and the Family Fun Farm) were also starting to attract a good sized crowd in the fall.
In 2001 a major addition added almost 8000 sq. ft. and incorporated an expanded bakery, foodservice area, walk-in-freezer, refrigerated cold storage apple sales room, restrooms, a packing line area and a gift shop in the spaces left in between. It has been a natural for the gift shop to focus its seasonal selection of gifts and decor on the fall, Harvest, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas themes.
In 2004, a customer service & main checkout area was added as well as an expansion of the paved customer parking areas. Through these last few years we have continued to develop the bakery, foodservice and gift areas as our customers, visitors and friends have given us encouragement and product suggestions. Our market has grown to what it is today because of our loyal local customers and the repeat annual fall visitors. Thank you all for your continued support of the Cornucopia.
